Background
The Union Internationale de la Marionette (UNIMA) Kenya Chapter was established in 2004 as a Non governmental, non-profit making organization in Kenya initiated and nurtured by FPPS, the pioneer puppetry organization in East and Central Africa. It is registered under the NGO Bureau. The organization aims to bring together all the puppeteers and the interested organizations to partner up in the development of the art of puppetry in Kenya and East Africa as a means of communication, community education and social change. UNIMA Kenya endeavours to promote the art of puppet theatre in Kenya and to represent the interests of the Kenyan puppeteers in the international fora. UNIMA Kenya is committed to promotion and presentation of the art of puppetry to reflect the diverse talent and cultural artistic treasures the country has to offer to the international community.
UNIMA Kenya in partnership with Family Programme Promotion Service have implemented several puppetry project including: Puppet Against HIV/AIDS, STIs Professional Puppet theatre performances for the general public entertainment, Puppet for Peer Education and Life Skill education, Puppets for Therapy, Puppets for Good Governance, Gender and Rights Awareness, Puppets for Environment, Sanitation and Community Health, Puppets for Product Promotion., Production and sale of puppet artefacts and Puppetry in Education
